Gang Prevention
Hello,
I am a full time student at Coastal Carolina University, while being a part time intern for Project Lighthouse in Myrtle Beach. On Monday, March 17, 2008 there was a Gang Prevention workshop at a local church. Myrtle Beach Police did a power point presentation on what to look for in clothing, jewerly, gang logo, and telling the community what gangs are around in the community. After the Power Point Presentation there was open mic. discussion and questions for the community and local police.
The workshop was very informative and positive. The police said that they are going to do more workshops for the Gang Prevention in the community, such as going to churches and schools. Members of the church informed people of grants that are availible for after school programs and encouraged people to assist in getting involved in them.
Hopefully, the community got a lot out of this workshop and with their new knowledge can make a difference in the community to prevent more gangs from forming.
This was an eye opening opportunity for me being new in the community.
